David joined Macfarlanes in 2009 as a partner, specialising in the financial services regulatory field. Prior to joining the firm, David was a managing director at an international investment bank, where he held a number of complementary senior level roles in legal, compliance and front office functions.
David has a wide range of financial services regulatory and compliance experience and advises a broad client base on financial services regulatory issues.
David's recent experience includes advising:

a leading financial institution on the application of the FSA Remuneration Code;

a high-profile listed financial institution through an urgent and wide-ranging remedial programme;

a major bank on key strategic regulatory and compliance issues in connection with a newly-established business division;

a wealth management firm on suitability issues;

an international investment bank on liability under and the practical implications of the UK Bribery Act 2010;

an e-money issuer on a range of innovative, new-to-market products;

a financial institution on the investment research regime and assisting with the formulation of related procedures and policies;

a number of financial institutions in preparing for an FSA ARROW visit;

a large bank on a series of client money issues, including in the context of commission sharing agreements;

a leading private bank on the application of the UK regulatory regime;

an asset management firm on complex market abuse issues; and

David is a member of the City of London Law Society Regulatory Law Committee.
